iHome iHMP5 headphones convert to speakers

iHome has released a set of full-ear headphones that sport an integrated in-line amplifier and can be converted into portable speakers rather than strictly operating in a private mode. The iHMP5 set includes a battery-powered, louder amplifier when users want to set it up in speaker mode while still providing a reduced amount of power at all times for regular headphone use. The 50mm (nearly 2 inches) drivers deliver the sound, and there is a volume control clip.

The speakers/headphones feature a common 3.5mm audio jack. Available in red, blue or silver, the iHMP5 can be purchased now, priced at $70.

Revo IKON brings DAB radio, iPhone dock, touch

Revo this morning claimed the high ground in radio docks through the unveiling of the IKON. The system aims to be a center for all digital audio with DAB+ radio (for the UK), Internet radio through many sources that include Last.fm, Pandora, Rhapsody and Sirius, an iPhone/iPod dock and media sharing from Macs and PCs on the local Ethernet or Wi-Fi network. A unique advantage in the field is a 3.5-inch touchscreen that provides both a much more context-sensitive interface for each source but displays album art, song data and anything else a given format allows.

The bookshelf-sized stereo also provides FM radio and an aux-in jack for alternative sources. Revo keeps it thin but relatively powerful with flat-panel NXT speakers producing 30W of sustained power. Although intended partly for the British home market with a £280 ($461) after-tax price, the company specifically intends to support the US and will ship the IKON worldwide in October.

pzizz relax, Chordmaster LE, Money

pzizz relax ($3) is a relaxation tool that builds a musical playlist based on a definable amount of time. The software uses a structured random algorithm that can create a different soundtrack every time it is used. The algorithm pulls from different inspiring quotes, sound effects, music, and binaural beats to create each soundtrack.

Chordmaster LE (free) is a guitar chord dictionary that allows users to search for and view different fingerings. All chords are displayed on a virtual fretboard which can be set for both left and right handed diagrams and are organized by root, chord type and chord variant. The application also allows users to strum the chords or play individual strings to hear how each should sound. The free version allows users to display each chord in first position while the paid version offers variations for each chord.

Jumsoft Money (free) is a financial tool that can help a user track all of their transactions and maintain a budget. The tool allows users to create multiple accounts allowing users to keep cash, credit, and debit transactions separate. A budget can also be set within Jumpsoft Money and then tracked using the Budget Monitor tool. Other features include bill reminders, graphical representations of spending, and the ability to sync with the desktop version of Money.

iSing ($1) allows users to record a short audio clip and then upload it for others to vote on. Users can sort through uploaded clips by the best or worst of the month, all time, or by location. Each clip can then be played on the device and voted thumbs up or down. Tapping on someone's entry allows the user to bring up their profile and find out more about the singer.

PhotoFame ($1) allows users to submit their photos to the South West News Service, a company who supplies national and global press with images and stories. According to the developers a large percentage of the photos that show up in newspapers are sent in by the public. There is even the possibility of being paid for the photo if it is selected for a news story.

Current iPods disappear in advance of Sept. event

All current iPods SKUs are being discontinued, sources in Apple's Authorized Reseller network claim. The sources note that even though stock is running low or empty in many cases, no new resupply shipments to third-party vendors have been scheduled. The dwindling numbers have been anticipated however, as an attempt by Apple to drain inventory in advance of new iPods, which should be announced in September.

Apple has hosted regular music-related events in September for the past several years, promoting both iPod- and iTunes-related developments. This year's event is expected on September 9th, and could see cameras added to the iPod touch, nano and classic. Simultaneous may be the deployment of iTunes 9, adding Blu-ray support and social networking functions.
